Chapter 06

Plain, and
a bit dry

British, direct, allergic to hype. We’re one person building a tool for people doing client work — we write like that, not like a press release. Say the true thing, then stop.

The four traits

Plain

Short sentences. Real words. If a sentence needs a second read, rewrite it.

Honest

We say what a thing costs and what it doesn’t do yet. “Soon” means soon, not never.

Dry

A little humour, delivered straight. Never zany, never exclamation marks.

On your side

We talk about your clients and your work, not our platform and our ecosystem.

Write this,
not that

House style

  • British spelling: colour, organise, licence (noun).
  • Sentence case for everything — headings, buttons, nav. Never full caps, never Title Case.
  • “Living Page” is always two words, both capitalised. Never “LivingPage” outside a URL.
  • Say “document” or “reader”, not “flipbook”, in product UI. “Flipbook” is for people searching for one.
  • Contractions are fine. Em dashes are fine. Exclamation marks are not.
